Local Solutions

We need local ways of communicating with local workers that can effectively and meaningfully tell these workers that they have certain rights. Websites like this one can help give important information to local workers who might not be aware of the benefits of unionizing or are scared of employers who threaten to retaliate.

Locally, simply supporting our local labor unions is not enough. Better action should be taken by local communities to spread the word about labor organizations and take a more proactive stance in handling disputes. Brochures in many languages discussing labor laws and the rights afford to workers should be produced and distributed. This would allow minority groups like those workers who don’t speak English and those who are illegal immigrants know that they too possess rights and protect them against unfair labor practices. This would increase support among workers groups who might have not participated in labor organizing before.
